What automation adds to the risk
These sit on top of the ordinary risks of trading, not instead of them.
Software fails in ways people do not
Bugs, stale data, exchange outages and connectivity loss can all cause a system to trade wrongly, or to stop trading while a position is open. Automation removes human error and introduces machine error in its place.
A backtest is not a promise
Any strategy can be made to look good against history it was designed on. Results from past data carry no guarantee about live conditions, and live conditions are the only ones that cost money.
You keep custody and responsibility
Nothing described here involves taking custody of your funds or managing money on your behalf. Your capital stays in your own exchange account, under your control, and every position opened remains your responsibility.
Automation can lose money faster
A system executes its rules without hesitation, including when the rules are wrong for current conditions. Speed is an advantage until it is not.
